Couponing 101

Have you seen all of the hype about couponing lately and wondered how you too can get in on the deals?  Then you are in the right place.  Below is some basic information to help you get started!  In the current state of the economy and being a military family, we have to save money whereever we can!  I thought I would NEVER get the hang of this ~ but low and behold I think I am finally catching on!  I owe a lot of thanks to http://www.krazycouponlady.com/ and http://www.dealseekingmom.com/!  They both have a lot of great ideas and keep everyone up to date to deals! I hope this information helps you get started to saving LOTS of $$$$$!!!

1. Start clipping coupons!  You can find coupons in your newspaper, magazines, and online!  Get out of the habit of only clipping the coupons that you think you might use!  Clip them ALL!

2. Make your binder! I use a three inch binder and filled it baseball card holder sheets!  These can be found ant walmart and target in the baseball/football card collection area for about $5.00!  Next pick up some inexpensive dividers.  I found mine at target for $0.97!  I bought 4 packages. I seperated mine into the fllowing categories:  Baby, baking, beauty, beverages, bread, canned goods, cereal, cleaning, condiments, dairy, frozen, hygiene, laundry, meat, medicine, office, oral, paper goods, pet, sides, snacks, and then I made categories for the stores I frequent!  Military (NEX/Deca), CVS, Rite Aid, Target, Walgreens!

3. Check out each stores coupon policy - I have included links to the store I frequent the most!  If you would like, print out the stores policy and keep it in your binder to refer to if needed.  I have found that most stores have their coupon policy posted somwhere. A lot of stores allow you to "stack" coupons - meaning you can use a store coupon and a manufacturer's coupon on a single item!

Target: Target allows you to stack a store coupon as well as a manufacturer's coupon too! Some of the coupons that you print from Target's website are also manufacturer coupons as well so watch for that when you print!  You can also sign up for Target mobile coupons - just text offers to 827438 - these can also be stacked with manufacturer's coupons as well!  Check out the current target coupons as well as their coupon policy at:
www.target.com/coupons
*Also target offers gift cards when you purchas specially marked items - so watch lose when your wondering those aisles!

CVS: CVS has lots of great deals! Make sure you join their loyalty rewards.  It's the CVS reward card - you have to scan that every time to get the special marked prices and deals!  CVS also has "extra Bucks" that print on the bottom of your receipt for specially marked products.  They change weekly!  So the goal is to have enough left over from each transaction to pay for the next!  I usually start with about $5.00 or $6.00 and have multiple transactions from there.  You can check out CVS' coupons and coupon policy at:
www.cvs.com/coupons

Walgreen's: Walgreen's is also a favorite!  They are a little harder - but they always have great deals! Walgreen's also stacks store coupons with manufacturer's coupons.  They have a coupon booklet right in the front of the store by their weekly ad.  I always take one...or TWO! ;)
They also have coupons in their weekly sales ad!  At special times of the year they also have an additional coupon book that offer even more great Walgreen's coupons.  Walgreen's aso prints Register Rewards on specially marked items as well - again this changes weekly!  However, these are also manufacturer's coupons so when you use these to pay ~ you often have to have filler items!  EX:  Revlon nail polish 3.99 - you have a manufacturer's coupon for $1.00 off and a walgreen's coupon for $1.00 off - making your purchase 1.99.  You have a register rewards for $2.00 that you want to use to pay.  First reason you need a filler is you are a penny short - and you have 2 manufacturer's coupons.  So find a cheap filler and there you go!  They also have rebate offers in the back of the coupon book - for certain items as well - even more cash back!  Walgreen's now has an app - that gives you a new coupon every few days!  You can find their coupon policy at:
http://www.walgreens.com/topic/help/generalhelp/coupon_policy_main.jsp?erule=couponpolicy

Rite Aid: Rite Aid has  alot of ways to save money!  Rite has a reward card as well - It's called a +up card.  When you scan this you will get sale prices and special deals.  They also have the register rewards that print on your receipt.  They are called + up rewards. You can do multiple transactions and apply them to your next purchase!  You can also go to http://www.riteaid.com/ and click on videos ~ they have short little videos that you can watch to earn a coupon!  And Yep - you can Stack coupons here too!  Rite Aid also offers SCR - which stands for Single Check Rebate - They have an additional flyer that tells you what the single check rebates are for the month - SAVE all of your receipts - you go online and enter your receipts at the end of the month and they will mail you a check!  * Be careful though - you can only submit for a check once a month!  You can check Rite Aid's coupon policy at:
www.riteaid.com/coupons

I know all of this can seem a little overwhelming when you first get started!  Hang in there - it gets easier every time!  And please know I am here for support and questions so feel free to ask away!
